Communication and awareness
Performance Objective. Top management will communicate the outputs of its SMS to its employees, and will provide its oversight organization access to SMS outputs in accordance with established agreements and disclosure programs.
Design Expectations.
(1) The organization will communicate safety critical outputs of the SMS, rationale behind
controls, preventative or corrective actions and insure awareness of SMS objectives to its employees.
(2) The organization will provide its oversight organization access to the outputs of the SMS.
(3) The organization’s SMS will be able to inter-operate with other organization’s SMSs
to cooperatively manage issues of mutual concern.
Communication and Awareness. Top Management should communicate the outputs of its SMS to its employees, and should provide its oversight organization access to SMS outputs in accordance with established agreements and disclosure programs. The processes specified in the Safety Policy, SRM, SA, and Safety Promotion components of the SMS provide the structure for the organizations processes. However, the organization must also set in place processes that allow for open communication among employees and the organization’s management. The aviation service provider must make every effort to communicate its goals and objectives, as well as the current status of the organization’s activities and significant events. Likewise, the organization must supply a means of upward communication in an environment of collaboration, trust, and respect.
