Slick Service Bulletin SB1-12


SUBJECT: A condition in the point assemblies of Slick single point magnetos that might lead
                     to decreased service life.
MAGNETO MODELS AFFECTED: The following Impulse Coupled and Direct Drive Magnetos
                       with Serial Numbers between 11110001 thru 12030902;
                       and M3081 Point Kits dated 11/01/2011 thru 3/22/2012.
4301, 4302, 4309, 4316, 4330, 4333, 4370, 4371, 4372, 4373, 4374, 4381
6310, 6313, 6314, 6320, 6324, 6331, 6340, 6350, 6351, 6355, 6360, 6361, 6362, 6364,
6367, 6379, 6382, 6399
ENGINE MODELS AFFECTED: Engines utilizing Slick 4200 / 6200 OR 4300 / 6300 series
                        Impulse and Direct Drive magnetos.
AIRFRAME MODELS AFFECTED: Aircraft utilizing Slick 4200 / 6200 OR 4300 / 6300 series
                        Impulse and Direct Drive magnetos

INFORMATION: Champion Aerospace has identified a condition in the point assemblies of single point magnetos that may lead to decreased service life. This issue was identified based on an extremely limited number of product returns. The component assemblies met all
acceptance criteria at the time of production. Champion has since made improvements to the process and acceptance criteria to make the new product more robust. On some product manufactured prior to this change, we have seen additional returns of point contacts that exhibit accelerated wear in magnetos with low service hours, prompting the issue of this Service Bulletin. Typical symptoms are unusual RPM drop during magneto check, difficulty starting, rough running engine, and/or unstable point timing upon installation.
COMPLIANCE: Replace magneto or affected point assemblies in subject magnetos at earliest convenient maintenance time not to exceed the next scheduled maintenance period. If magnetos have more than 100 hours Time In Service (TIS) the points can be replaced at the next regular maintenance interval

                             BRAKE SYSTEM -MAINTENANCE PRACTICES              1. Description and Operation A. The hydraulic brake system is comprised of two master cylinders, located immediately forward of the  pilot’s rudder pedals, brake lines and hoses, and single-disc, floating cylinder brake assemblies located at  each main landing gear wheel. B. The parking brake system is comprised of a pull-type handle and mechanical connections which are  linked to the rudder pedal assembly. Pulling aft on the brake handle applies mechanical pressure to the  rudder pedals, activating the brakes and locks the handle in place. Propeller Installation for all fixed pitch propellers (except 1A162 model propellers).                   WARNING: MAKE SURE THE MAGNETO IS GROUNDED BEFORE INSTALLING  THE PROPELLER OR CONNECTING EXTERNAL POWER.                NOTE: McCauley recommends that propeller mounting nuts (if applicable) be replaced at each  propeller installation, whenever possible. However, nuts may be reused providing the threads are in good condition and the locking material prevents turning of the nut on the  stud by hand.
